演講大綱

There has been inconsistent finding regarding the role of negative emotional reactivity in the psychopathology of depression. Emotional context insensitivity (ECI) hypothesis suggested that both positive and negative emotional reactivity are weakened in depressive population. In contrast, cognitive theories suggested a negative exaggeration effect. Though meta-analysis showed a favor for ECI, the small effect size and heterogeneity of results were calling for examination.

This study addressed the different level of emotional reactivity, self-reported habitual emotional reactivity and psychophysiological reactions during a lab task, as well as incorporated possible moderator, interoceptive sensibility and interoceptive accuracy, to further investigate the psychopathology of depression in the aspects of emotional reactivity. Results suggested that in the physiological level of emotional reactivity, ECI was supported; in contrast, in the self-report habitual level, negative exaggeration hypothesis was supported. Individuals who can accurately perceive bodily sensations, as well as tend to notice and use such sensations, are at lower risk for positive insufficiency in depression. In addition, for those who can accurately perceive bodily sensations versus who were inaccurate, the arousal and regulate aspects of emotional reaction plays different role in depression pathology.
