摘要
The sleep neurophysiology is utterly fascinating due to the inevitable alterations between conscious wakefulness and unconscious sleep. Why does human brain need to turn off its functions every night? Based on the latest understanding about brain functionality, neuroimaging evidence shows that our brain may not “shut off” and “turn on” immediately as we perceive in the sleep-wake transitions. Using the simultaneous recordings of EEG and fMRI, we will be able to have a glimpse on the sophisticated brain stories in the altered states of consciousness during the sleeping, the non-REM stages and the waking processes.
