演講摘要

This study inherits the previous series of studies about “The Chinese optimism and pessimism Scale”, which followed the indigenous construction path of Yang Kuo-Shu, explored the meaning of Chinese optimism and pessimism according to seven indigenous dimensions of Chinese personality in Chinese traditional cultural context. On the basis of the ancient study, traits of “optimism” are “comfortable,” “satisfied,” “positive human interacting,” and “aggressive;” while traits of pessimism are “sentimental,” “negative expect,” “pity others,” and “retreat.” It has been confirmed the reliability and validity of this scale. “The Revised Life Orientation Test”, “The Resilience Scale”, “Multidimensional Scale of Chinese Individual Traditionality (MS-CIT)”, and “Multidimensional Scale of Chinese Individual Modernity (MS-CTH)” were also added as criterion. According to the correlation among this scale, dispositional optimism, and psychological tenacity, traits of optimism and pessimism are also related with personal life-adapted ability. This stage will continue the previous studies. In addition to explore the meaning of Chinese optimism and pessimism traits, we want to examine the personality traits of specific behavior representation from our scale. According to this purpose, we will capture adjectives about personality traits that people describe themselves or others generally by social network (nodal) analysis. Data mining technology will be taken for textual analysis, to identify optimistic and pessimistic personality vocabularies and upgrade The Chinese optimism and pessimism Scale. Vocabularies about Chinese optimism and pessimism in previous studies were cited from seven indigenous dimensions of Chinese personality by Yang Kuo-Shu, which originated from words and proverbs described optimistic and pessimistic mood or feelings in literature. However, the more popularity of Internet and mobile carrier, the more connection and interaction will be through social networking sites. Personality vocabularies from social networking sites must be different from literature references. Data mining technology will be taken to do cluster analysis, identifying dimensions of Chinese optimism and pessimism traits, and inspecting the meanings and difference between this study and the previous one. Besides, this study will find out the top 10 positive and negative events through social network (nodal) analysis, and analyze the explanation of different degrees of optimists and pessimists. We will divide optimists and pessimists from personality traits and levels, predicting the perceived frequency about positive and negative life events. According to our conclusion, apart from upgrading “The Chinese Optimism and Pessimism Traits Scale” to make it more appropriate, we also expect this scale could be used widely in education, personnel evaluation, and clinical or counseling assessment.
