講題：Individual Differences in Categorization Strategy and Working Memory Capacity
演講摘要：Recently, Conaway and Kurtz (2016) asked participants to learn the partial XOR category structure, in which stimuli in 3 out of 4 quadrants were presented in the learning phase and all stimuli were presented in the transfer phase. The participants’ transfer response patterns showed two categorization strategies: proximity and XOR. These authors claimed with computer simulation that the reference-point model cannot accommodate their results, but their DIVA model can. In this study, first I showed with computer simulation that the reference-point model can account for their results from the perspective of kernels. Second, in addition to replicating their results, I also measured participants’ WMC and found a negative correlation between WMC and tendency of using XOR strategy only for the XOR group. This relationship is implied to be mediated by how deterministic the decision-making processis, with Bayesian hierarchical modeling for a hybrid model consisting of two reference-point models.
